Water and Sewer Bill Explanation

If your property received a new water meter during this past quarter (July 1 – September 30, 2024). Due to installing a new water meter mid-quarter, the water billing software created a bill that requires some explanation.

  • The following is an explanation of the Meter Readings section of your bill:
    • CURRENT is the gallons used as measured by the new water meter, from the day it was installed to September 30, 2024.
    • PREVIOUS is the gallons used as measured by the previous water meter, from July 1, 2024 to the day it was replaced. This is expressed as a negative number.
    • USAGE is the total gallons used as measured by both meters. The software is set up to subtract the PREVIOUS from the CURRENT, so the CURRENT needs to be expressed as a negative number.
      • For instance, if you had used 2,000 gallons with the old meter (PREVIOUS) and 3,000 gallons with the new meter (CURRENT), the software uses the formula of
        • (3,000) – (– 2000) = 5,000  gallons used.
    • SERVICE CHARGE DAYS is only showing the days the new meter was in service.
  • All bills after this bill will be presented in the manner that you are used to with a starting meter read and an ending meter read for the quarter.

Water Service Line Inventory

The Town of Richmond is participating in a water service line inventory. This inventory will classify pipe materials for every service line connected to the water system. The Town has hired MSK Engineers to complete this inventory. More information on the inventory, including what is requried from each owner of a building with water service, is included in this letter:
