The purpose of the Richmond Fire Department is to preserve and protect life and property for the Town of Richmond, Vermont in the event of fire or other emergency; and to promote the civic and social welfare of the community.
Burn Permits
To burn in Richmond, VT, you need a permit for fires larger than a “campfire” and must contact the Richmond Fire Department or the Town Forest Fire Warden for a permit, ensuring safe burning conditions.
Permit Requirement:
A “Permit to Kindle Fire” is required from the Town Forest Fire Warden for burning untreated wood, brush, weeds, or grass, unless there’s snow on the site or a 200-foot separation from flammable materials.
Town Ordinances:
Some towns have local ordinances requiring burn permits even when snow is present.
Fire Danger:
Fire Wardens have the authority to ban open burning in their towns during times of high fire danger or hazardous local conditions.
